Details:
Up for auction is my 31-year-old Steiff Limited Edition "Nimrod Teddy" set of three bears, new in box, with an included Steiff certificate of authenticity.
This collection of three Nimrod bears displays beautiful Steiff craftsmanship in materials and design, with a white, a caramel, and a gold bear outfitted as outdoorsmen -- a fisherman and two hunters -- around a campfire, with a tent in one corner of the box. Each bear shows a chest label ("Nimrod Teddy"), ear button and white tag labeled #0210/22 to front. Released in 1983, this set commemorated the 80th birthday of the teddy bear, and the 125th birthday of President Theodore Roosevelt, for whom the teddy bear was named.
The box is a display box, and is 15.5 inches long, 10 inches wide, and 7 inches deep. The top and front of the box are made of clear plastic through which the bears are clearly displayed. The bears and their campfire and tent appear to be in mint condition, but the box has received a little wear through three decades of climate-controlled storage, as best detailed in the large-resolution pictures included. The box is imprinted "Margaret Steiff Giengen-Brenz, Erste Filzspielwaren-Fabrik Deutchlands. Genuine mohair. Contents and box made in West Germany. Style no. 0210/22." The Berlin Wall did not fall for six years after this set was released.
The certificate of authenticity notes that this Nimrod Set is a reproduction of bears made in 1953, which celebrated the 50th birthday of the Teddy. The certificate reads in part, "Each set brings to mind a firm with an outstanding history and a dedication to quality, unsurpassed by any other plus toymaker. Last but not least, each piece is a salute to a 'great personality,' ... the Teddy Bear, a personality which continues to endure as the most memorable toy ever made."
