Description
Up for auction is an incredibly rare and limited edition Electra 2009 cruiser bike by mid-century artist Alexander Girard called the Amsterdam Girard 3i. Electra bicycles issued two Amsterdam models that year -- the "Tree of Life" and the "Madonna" which is featured here. The bike is a variation on the Electra Amsterdam model and comes with custom seat and grips, color coordinated rims, a matching bell, 3-speed drivetrain, rear rack, fenders, skirt guard, bell and pedal powered headlight, and illustrations by legendary mid-century designer Alexander Girard. For those of you not familiar with Girard by name are still probably familiar with some of his work. He is best known for the textile designs that he created for Herman Mille in the 1950s, working with such notable furniture designers as George Nelson and Charles and Ray Eames. My wife and I purchased the bike at our school chairty auction in 2009 after it was donated by a local bike shop (Helen's Bikes.) The bike was in an office at work this entire time and is guaranteed to have NEVER been ridden. The tubes in the tires are flat after these 11 years of sitting on a carpeted floor, and the bike seat has some splits as well (all due to the natural aging of the last 11 years) and there's a few extremely minor marks on the body, but other than those call outs, the bike is in absolutely magnificent condition. And again, it has never been ridden. The bike is in spectacular shape. It was displayed in the office as the true incredible piece of art that it is. I've looked online and there has only been a couple of these for sale since they were released in extremely low volume in 2009 and the two that I found were not close to this condition. Here's a chance to get an ultra rare piece of art from Electra featuring Alexander Girard!!! The bike is ONLY available for free local pick-up in the Los Angeles area. It's in much to pristine condition to risk it getting damaged in a shipping box.
I am not a bike collector but please email me and I will do my best to answer your questions with as much detail as possible. I can also send additional photos as they are the best evidence of condition.
Thanks!
