Description
In my younger days I worked in both Schwinn and Raleigh bike shops. My first Sport bike was a Schwinn Varsity 10 speed that I rebuilt. Great bike, then it got stolen, recovered, then stolen again. Wanting a good bike fast, I bought a 1982 Trek 311. It was the last bike I ever bought. It was super lightweight (compared to my Schwinn Varsity), handled well, had extremely durable quality components, and was easy to maintain. It is still in like new condition mechanically. All the bearings have had their grease changed at least 3 times in it's life. Probably would be a good idea to do them again, just to start fresh and know where your maintenance is at.
Most bikes were never treated as good as my Trek. Wheels are true, brakes are perfectly adjusted side-pull, which I think are easier to adjust than center-pull. The derailleurs are perfectly adjusted. The only problem I see is the rear tire that has a small slash in the sidewall, that will fail eventually.
I am not replacing it prior to sale, sorry.
The 27 x 1-1/8 90 psi tires create very little drag while offering good strength on bumps and what-not when inflated properly. There is an adapter(included) that is needed to air up with a standard air chuck.
Front reflector is missing. If you buy this bike, you will have to have some mechanical ability to put the wheels (quick-release), seat(5mm hex key), gooseneck/handlebar assy.(6mm hex key needed), brake cables into brake levers, and pedals (15mm wrench needed) on properly. The included original Owners Manual does explain these procedures quite well.
