    Description

    1979 Schwinn The Sting BMX
I built this bike in 1998 from an NOS frame set (frame, fork, headset) I purchased new from a nearby local Schwinn dealer that was sadly closing. I used as many NOS period correct parts that I could find. The ONLY newer parts on the bike are the tires/tubes, which I guess are 20+ years old at this point. Since the build, it's been proudly on display inside my house. It has been ridden and enjoyed a handful of times throughout the years and has never been apart since I've built it. Yes, I've ridden it... it's a showpiece but it's also a bicycle! As you can see in the photos there are some minor imperfections and blemishes. The factory stickers are in very good shape. The right side Sting sticker has a crinkle in it (see pix), but I've chosen not to replace it and keep it as original as possible.
Everything works as it should and it is completely rideable.
This bike could easily be cleaned up way more than it is. It's obviously never been left outside or exposed to the elements.
According to the serial #L9T083 I believe it was built in May of 1979, and includes the early model forks.
