Triumph Spitfire Mark IV: 50 years of Sportswear.
1923
Triumph introduces its first motor car.
A sporty 2 door tourer. And a great marque is born.
1935
In the 6 cylinder Southern Cross, we combined one of the most handsome body designs of the era, with
performance that made it a winner in speed trials at Brooklands.
1930
Triumph begins its winning heritage by taking the Brighton Rally in this supercharged Triumph Super Seven.
1935
Of all our cars in the Thirties, the Dolomite project was the most exciting. With a supercharged twin cam straight 8 and self-change gearbox it was guaranteed to exceed 100 mph.
(Left) the 1936 Dolomite convertible.
1946
The beautiful 1800
roadster, with a big 2 litre 4 cylinder engine, had performance enough for renowned race driver Raymond Mays to own one.
1934
Our reputation continues to grow as a Triumph Ten Gloria wins the light car division of the Monte Carlo Rally.
1952
Triumph's greatest landmark in sports car manufacture was the 4 cylinder, 2 litre TR2... more performance for the price than had ever been offered before plus the economy of an amazing 30 mpg.
Ken Richardson unveiled it in a dramatic 120 mph dash on the Jabbeke Highway, Belgium.
1960
Triumph reached a road racing milestone by finishing as a team in the most famous sports car race of all the grueling 24 hours of Le Mans.
1961
Unique sports cars, the twin overhead cam TRS’s, won the team prize at Le Mans averaging 99 mph for 24 hours in road race competition.
1962
Triumph once again shakes the sports car world with the introduction of the high performance low price Spitfire. This contemporary styled 2 seater has followed in the footsteps of past Triumph champions to become....
1972
By 1972, the holder of three National annual road racing championships and countless divisional and regional titles. But don't let its impressive credentials scare you, because the beautiful balance of power, performance and handling that excels in road race driving, is also superb for whatever kind of driving you do. Which is exactly what we’ve been doing for the past 50 years. Building sports cars that are impressive on and off the track. Sports cars with the appealing combination of performance and value that make them perennial favorites among sports car owners of the world.
TRIUMPH SPITFIRE
Our little inexpensive economy car can beat your little inexpensive economy car.
Spitfire is a long time winner of National, as well as Divisional, Sports Car Club of America Championships. But taking a title doesn’t mean winning just one or two hard fought races a year. It means winning ten or twenty or more hard fought races a year.
Also, don’t think owning such a big winner will cost a big price. Because you can buy the Spitfire for a small price. And drive the Spitfire for a small price. (It gets 27 miles per gallon.)
They don’t call us Triumph for nothing.
