DESCRIPTION:
Isn’t it time you left the matt black, the stripes and the GT badges behind? The Dolomite does.
Some people's cars have more show than go. The new Triumph Dolomite is just the reverse.
It has more go than shows. Which will rather shake some of the boy racers when they come up against it.
Its top gear acceleration of 40-60 in 9 seconds beats anything else in the class. 0-60 takes 11.5 seconds.
This sporting performance comes from a new 1854 cc power unit of advanced design: The Slant 4 engine. It delivers 91 bhp (net) at 5200 rpm; and a 5-bearing crankshaft gives an unusual degree of smoothness for a 4-cylinder engine.
The Dolomite is the true grand tourer. On autobahn and autostrada it maintains
speeds up and around the ton easily and effortlessly, and is luxuriously comfortable to ride in. Which press comment confirms.
‘The layout of the controls and the range of seat adjustment are an object lesson to all other manufacturers.’ Motor.
‘Those looking for the plushness and performance of “executive class” saloons... should find it particularly attractive.’ Daily Telegraph.
And the man who likes to put his foot down can also get his head down. The front seats recline fully.
Gearbox response is deft and definite. Servo-assisted brakes (discs at the front, self-adjusting drums at the rear) give clean, taut pull-up.
Your first trip in the Dolomite will show you what it can do—and why it doesn’t need showoff devices.
£ 1,352.48 ex-works inc. p.t. and fitted front seat belts.

The Triumph Dolomite can do 40.5 mpg (and 103 mph).
That’s what it did to win its class in the Mobil Economy Run.
Everybody knows the performance the Triumph Dolomite puts up. (0-50 in 8.5 seconds; in top, 40-60 in 7.8 seconds.) But perhaps not everybody realises just what an economical car it can be.
Its win in the Mobil Economy Runs gives amazing proof. The whole 946-mile course of town roads, country lanes, blind corners and steep hills is carefully plotted to force high fuel consumption. Which is why the drivers have to be especially skilful in driving for economy.
On this stringent test, the 1854cc Dolomite showed almost miserly consumption: 40.55 to the gallon. Which made it the class winner of cars 1750 to 2500cc, with a dear 5mpg lead over the next best.
It just shows how you can have the best of both worlds in the Triumph Dolomite. A fast car, and an economy car. Further economy note: oil consumption was nil.
