DESCRIPTION:
A dead end for other cars is a turning point for the Triumph Herald.
Cobbles and corners: neither presents a problem to the Triumph Herald.
No one could call the Herald a small car. It is nearly thirteen feet long, and takes four man-size men in comfort. It has a cavernous boot.
Nevertheless, the Herald can get round awkward comers with the agility of a ferret. In tight spots where any other car (even ten-foot baby cars) would have to yo-yo backwards and forwards, the Herald goes its straightforward way. Why? Because the Herald has the tightest turning circle of any car of its size. It will about-turn in 25-ft.
Steel girders for strength
The Herald can do these acrobatics because it is built on a steel girder chassis which allows more room in the wheel arches for the wheels to be locked round. The chassis also gives the Herald a low centre of gravity. This, combined with all-independent suspension, gives t
he Herald its reputation for stability and sure-footedness on any road.
Newest new car ever
Eight years ago when the Herald was launched, it was a milestone. Never had so many new ideas arrived simultaneously in one motor car. The Herald gave the British motorist his first taste of all-round independent suspension. It let him drive 3,000 miles between services. It improved his vision with pencil-slim roof pillars. It protected him with a telescopic steering column. Some of these new ideas have been extensively copied. But the Herald has kept its position as the most advanced light car on the market, and has acquired one benefit that time' alone could give it. Progressive improvement.
More powerful, stronger
The engine in today’s Herald develops 25% more power than its forebear. The car has an
even stronger chassis and is better finished.
Only two other cars in the world can match this policy of steady improvement. Neither of them comes within ten years of the Herald for modernity.
Choose your hairpin
Any Triumph dealer will let you take the wheel of a Herald. Try it, on the dirtiest little comer you know. If the Herald can’t get round in one, nothing can.
